Climate
Trapani has a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winds and warm summers. August is hot, from December to February it is clammy at 15 degrees during the day.
Every now an then a scirocco comes by. This Southeaster blows strong and steady like a fan and brings hazy heat and dust from the African deserts. The local's moans about the Scirocco are legendary.
But thanks to the exposed position Trapani rarely becomes sweltering - the air is always in motion.
Vegetation
In the gardens of Sicily you may be suprised to find some of your pot plants flourishing - much larger. Ficus and other rubber trees,
Hibiscus, Bougainville, palms, citrus, olive trees are at home here.
Climate is frost-free, the eternal spring has become proverbial. The botanical gardens of Palermo are considered a first-class tourist attraction and also Trapani can be proud of the ancient Ficus Trees in the Villa Margherita.
The farmers can grow all year round. Their lemons have become world famous and the quality of the local vegetables is second to none.
Trapani is wine country. Try the local Nero d'Avola, the countless variations of the famous Marsala or a sweet Passito di Pantelleria.
