Culture and Events

'Going Out' to many trapanesi means walking down the beautiful Old Town Streets on a Saturday evening after dinner. It is like a huge Meet-and Greet for thousands of people until late after midnight.
The Town lacks prestigious halls since the Teatro Garibaldi has been destroyed in WorldWar II. Since that time the summer concerts take place outside in the beautiful Villa Margherita (here is the programme) or in the univercity hall Teatro Tito Marrone. Teachers and students of the Trapani conservatoire play suprisingly fine jazz in the local pubs. In summer there are concerts in front of the old Fish Market.
Trapani has a number of Cinemas, a caffè letteraio, and in summer, of course, a distinct 'beach culture'.

I Misteri di Trapani

Trapani is very serious about Easter: On Good Friday the 'Processione dei Misteri di Trapani' takes place. Processione dei Misteri It is the biggest and most solemn Easter Procession in Sicily and lasts for almost 30 hours.
Twenty statues that show the Via Dolorosa of Christ parade through the streets. It takes up to 20 people to carry one. You can see the weight in their faces.
Each statue is followed by a marching band playing funeral marches.
Pain and agony culminate in the statue of Madonna and if you for any reason don't get to the point of all this you at least feel a notable pain in your legs when you walk home on saturday afternoon.
